The Council of Europe has launched the new Compasito website, an updated digital version of its well-known manual for teaching human rights to children.
Compasito is a recognized educational resource designed to help teachers, youth workers, and educators introduce children to human rights principles in engaging and age-appropriate ways. The manual offers activities, lesson plans, and background information that encourage participation and critical thinking.
Modelled on the Compass manual, which focuses on human rights education for young people, Compasito tailors similar approaches for children under 13. It supports early civic learning, empathy-building, and understanding of equality and justice.
The new online platform makes the Compasito resources more accessible for educators worldwide. It allows users to easily explore materials, download activities, and learn how to integrate rights-based education into formal and non-formal teaching environments.
“Bringing human rights education closer to children is an essential part of preparing future citizens who value dignity, fairness, and equality,” stated a Council of Europe spokesperson.
The site provides tools for schools, NGOs, and youth centers to strengthen children’s understanding of their rights and responsibilities. It builds on the Council of Europe’s broader mission to promote inclusion, peace, and democracy through education.
