JAKARTA, 25 November 2025 – Ambassador Yonetani Koji officially presented his Letter of Credence as Japan’s Ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.
During the meeting, Ambassador Yonetani reaffirmed Japan’s strong commitment to deepening relations with ASEAN across political, economic, and cultural dimensions. He highlighted Japan’s dedication to promoting peace, regional stability, and inclusive development within Southeast Asia.
Secretary-General Kao welcomed the new ambassador and expressed appreciation for Japan’s longstanding support of ASEAN initiatives. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in addressing regional challenges and advancing shared goals under the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific.
Both sides reiterated their intent to enhance collaboration on priority areas such as digital transformation, climate action, and sustainable connectivity. The discussion reflected mutual confidence in the ongoing partnership as ASEAN and Japan mark 50 years of friendship and cooperation.
