Why he wore the Steve Harrington costume
Keery explained that the couple getting married, his friends Matt and Veronica, had planned a Halloween‑themed costume wedding. Veronica suggested that, since it was a costume celebration, it would be fun if he officiated in character as Steve.
A full costume wedding, not a stunt
The actor clarified that he was not the only guest in costume and that the entire event followed the Halloween dress‑up idea. According to Keery, the photos made it seem like he randomly showed up in character, but in reality the crowd included guests dressed as Shrek, the Riddler and other characters.
Wearing the real Scoops Ahoy outfit
Keery noted that the costume he wore was not a cheap replica bought online. He said that “Stranger Things” costume designer Amy Parris lent him the original Scoops Ahoy uniform from the series, joking that the shorts fit a bit differently than they did during filming.
His long‑running Steve Harrington role
In addition to his work as a musician under the name Djo, Keery has portrayed Steve Harrington since the first season of "Stranger Things" debuted in 2016. He continues to reprise the role in later seasons as the series moves toward its final episodes.
